Nachne Da Mazza, Bakshi Billa

The foundations for the album “Nachne Da Mazza” were laid at a small dhaba behind old Mukhtiar’s boot polish superstore, Jandiala Pty. Ltd. Bakshi Billa, a mystical creature from the depths of Punjab, had been performing for years alongside many of the region’s most prominent singers, including Sarabjeet Kaur and Babar the Elephant.

On a chance journey to retrieve the Ring from the evil Lord Jagtar, he came across two fellow travellers from the southern land of Australia – Brisbane’s Jaskurn Singh Gosal and Melbourne’s S.S Johal.

After winning Nawansher’s Ratainda months prior, the three had finally slain Lord Jagtar and won the district of Jalandhar after the infamous battle at Jandiala . The trio sat to reflect upon their victory that solemn winters night at Mukhtiar’s dhaba.

“Jassi”, sighed Bakshi weary from his wounds,

“Ji?” he replied,

“How’s about we make an album? You and Johal Bhaji can give the music, and I shall sing, like the jolly good fellow that I am” he asked,

Jassi turned to S.S Johal, and their eyes subconsciously averted one another in order to hide their true feelings from Bakshi.

Together they both knew they didn’t possess the botheration to follow through with this album, however, out of slight inebriation and obligation to their brother in arms, they agreed.

A cheer went up all around the dhaba, and the two Aussies bowed modestly, until they realized the cricket was playing in the background and Ponting had just gone for a duck.

They too then cheered.

The travelers returned to their home lands, and spent many years doing nothing but raising Kangaroos and herding Koalas.

Release dates were made before the tracks had even been begun, until one day in Jaskurn’s lair, the phone rang.

“Jassi Bhaji, its Bakshi Billa,Kidddddhan??”

“Oh kiddhan bhaji, bas teekh takh, how about you?”

“Where’s my album you potato?” asked Billa,

“It’s finished bro, just waiting for Barack Obama to master it” lied Jassi,

“Accha, send me the master soon then”,

“But of course Billa bhaji”,

And with that, the conversation ended.

Instantly Jassi began dialing S.S Johal’s number,

“Oi, hurry up and do your tracks” demanded Jassi,

“Fikhar not fair maiden, consider them done” replied Johal.

And with that, the album was completed.

Featuring 8 tracks, produced by Jaskurn Gosal, S.S Johal and Pal D, and lyrics by Mangi Mahal, Rattu Randhawa and many more, “Nachne da Mazza” seeks to provide the audience with a taste of Australian masala.

As much as we’d love to go into the history of these two Australian producers, and tell you about all the wonderful stage shows they’ve been a part of, the influences they’ve had, and what they had for breakfast last Tuesday, we won’t.

They claim to be simply about music and enjoyment, nothing more nothing less, and promise to provide much more down under desi for time to come.
